DETROIT VOICES celebrates Detroit's vocal artistry! A culminating performance was recorded live at the end of a songwriting workshop series for violin and viola students ages 3-16 from Detroit Youth Volume. Over the course of a few months, local musicians led students in writing lyrics to internationally-loved Classical Suzuki songs. The songs were presented to the world at the Detroit Public Library in the Children's Library on May 11th, 2019. Teaching artists also performed for the students. Featured teaching artists: Darrel Campbell Jr, Clara Hardie, Kris Johnson, Walter Lacey III, Ashley Nelson, Rebecca Rosen, and Stevie Soul.

Making an album is part of our annual special project. This is our fourth album so far. It is one of the most important pieces of Detroit Youth Volume's music education model. It allows our students to diversify their musical education while working with Detroit musicians. They gain a fuller appreciation of our city’s incredible heritage.
